In Atlanta, Fickett Elementary students receive Operation School Bell® clothing.

Each year Assistance League, a national, volunteer, nonprofit organization more than 100 years old, enhances the lives of more than 1.2 million families, children, and adults in need.

Through a commitment of hands-on action, more than 26,000 volunteer members in 122 chapters fund and staff philanthropic programs in local communities.

Atlanta Chapter - Helping Children and Adults in Need

The Atlanta Chapter has over 250 members who help children and adults in need rebuild their lives. In 2008-2009, Assistance League members donated more than 53,000 hours through six philanthopic programs to provide:

  • Child-safe cuddly bears to comfort frightened children during crisis situations
  • Need-based scholarships to students in post-high school institutions
  • Essential household and personal care items to the homeless and abused
  • New clothing to thousands of deserving school children
  • New rehabilitation-friendly clothing to seriously injured patients for physical therapy
  • Newborn and bereavement layette packages to mothers in need

Funding Helps Us Help the Community

More than 80 percent of Assistance League's funding in Atlanta comes from the sale of donated goods in our Attic Treasures Thrift Shop located across from the post office on Antique Row in Chamblee, Georgia. Cash contributions, in-kind gifts, member dues, and grants also provide support for Assistance League programs. Assistance League consistently returns over 75 percent of its income to the local community and has no paid employees. We welcome your assistance and support.
